Quantum Position Verification
Verification of device positions in space using quantum cryptography
Verification of Device Positions in Space using Quantum Cryptography
The University of Tartu, Estonia, is cooperating with QuBalt to work in the field of quantum position verification. In Quantum Cryptography, quantum mechanical effects are used to perform cryptographic tasks.
Quantum communication channels are used to implement quantum position verification, a method that allows a number of communication devices to verify that a further device is located at a claimed geographical location. This verification is done in a way that makes it impossible for a device that is not at the claimed location to successfully pass the verification.
Applications of Quantum Position Verification
Research Paper
Research results from the University of Tartu are presented in the paper "Quantum position verification in the random oracle model". The paper has been presented at the Crypto 2014 conference.
Patent Applications and Patents
The quantum position verification method presented in the paper has been covered by EU and PCT patent applications. QuBalt has acquired the patent application from the University of Tartu. A US patent has been granted in May 2019.
